Chemical Pregnancy: Causes, Symptoms & Treatment

Hi Girls,

Motherhood is a very pleasant feeling of a woman’s life , but it also comes with many ups and downs for which we are not prepared already .

Yes, one such incidence happened in my life on 26th May 2022 when i was 6 days ahead of my period due date and i was very excited and hoping that maybe this time I am pregnant .

I was feeling many of early pregnancy symptoms like nausea, breast pain, small cramps in my lower belly with no bleeding etc .I couldn’t wait for the good news so I decided to visit the doctor on the 6th day after my due date had crossed , this was 26th may 2022 and my due date was 20th May.

I visited the doctor with my husband with all the hope in my mind that yes this time, maybe this time we will hear the news that we are going to be parents soon.

Doctor told me that since you are only 6 days ahead of your due date , there is no other way to check for a confirm pregnancy other than a BETA HCG blood test . I have not heard of this before , as the only method to check for a pregnancy which i knew was a urine test with home pregnancy kit.

As per doctor’s suggestion i took the blood test and on the very next day i got my report and when seeing it doctor said that your HCG levels is very low but it is more than that of a non-pregnant female that means you are having a “Chemical Pregnancy”.

Now, like me at that time you also must be wondering “What is Chemical Pregnancy Hcg Levels”

Let me tell you in simple words that  A chemical pregnancy is a very early pregnancy loss that happens when an egg is fertilized and implants in the uterus, but is unable to grow ...In other words, you can call it a early miscarriage which happens before 5 weeks of pregnancy .

There is a hormone called Beta Hcg , the sudden rise of which in our blood confirms the pregnancy .I am attatching a picture below which will make a clear understanding for you that what are normal Beta Hcg level for a woman to confirm whether she is pregnant or not .

REFERENCE RANGE : MALE AND NON PREGNANT FEMALES: <5 mI/mL

The Beta Hcg value which came in my report was in between 10-25 mIU/mL at that time , which was more than a non pregnant women but very less for a confirm pregnancy . So, doctor suggested me to wait atleast for 4-5 days more and see whether this further converts into a positive pregnancy or else i would get my period .

By now i have understood that if my Hcg levels rise in next few days than i can be pregnant but if my Hcg levels further drops i will get my period and it will no longer be a normal pregnancy.

2 days after this , I got my period !!!

I was extrememly saddened because this time i was really looking forward for a baby . This incidence broke me a little and questions like this started haundering in my mind – what is the reason for chemical pregnancy ? can i have successful pregnancy after having a chemical pregnancy? Can i have a healthy baby after a chemical prenancy?

I jumped on to the internet to find every possible information about “Chemical Pregnancy” and guess what the answers to all these questions is YES !

Chemical pregnancies are extremely common. In fact, experts actually believes this very early pregnancy loss may count upto 50% of all conceptions ! Often ,the only sign of a chemical prenancy is a late period .

Chemical pregnancies occur so early that many people who miscarry don’t realize it and just thought it is a late or heavy period .

If you do experience a chemical pregnancy, the good news is that it's absolutely possible to become pregnant afterward.

Now ,the question is What happens in chemical pregnancy actually? In this process , an embryo forms and may even be embedded in your uterus lining (implantation) , but it so weak that then it stops developing . And soon after this it get detatched from uterus walls and comes out with period blood.

There is nothing to worry about it and you can absolutely carry a healthy pregnancy afterwards and I am a live example of this infront of all of you.

So, girls I hope with today’s blog i am able to provide you with information about “Chemical pregnancy and importance of Hcg levels in it” and still if you have any questions you can comment below and i will try to answer them for you.
