World Mental Health Day, let’s learn a few tips how pregnant women can try to
remain stress free.
Do you know
that your little one who is growing inside you, and not yet fully developed but
the baby in the womb can sense the negative emotions already.
It has been
found in research that women who had a lot of stress during the time of
pregnancy, tend to have children who get angry very easily, cry a lot when left
in crib alone, have very weak immune system and fall ill easily, they look
fussy all the time, have poor self control, poor relationships, problems in
school with fellow classmates, behavioural issues etc.
Children of
extremely depressed mothers are often seeing facing a lot of major health
issues, their bodies are having higher levels of stress hormone, which can
further lead to anxiety and social cut off. Such children distance themselves
from the outer world and remain lost in themselves. This builds severe feeling
of lonliness and disinters acting with anyone left them stressed out.
Now let’s
talk about some “Tips To Stay Stress Free During Pregnancy”:-
I am listing
below some things to keep in mind which doctors suggest are necessary to remain
stress free during the time of pregnancy:
1. Practice Deep Breathing Exercises – It is very important for all pregnant women to practice
deep breathing exercises. Abdominal breathing is very helpful in relaxation
that you can use anytime to help you to calm yourself physically, mentally and in
turn decreases stress. Doing this practice helps to lower your heart rate and
calm you down.
2. You should try to practice “kangaroo mother care- after the baby is born. If you don’t
know what is kangaroo care then let me tell you that it is a process where the
new born baby is being carried by the mother usually with a skin to skin
contact. This methods improves bonding with your baby and the feeling of
closeness. It also increases your breast milk supply, which in turn gives you a
confidence that you are capable of taking care of your new baby and reduces any
amount of stress or fear which mothers generally start feeling that if their
baby is well cared or not.
3. Stay composed & try to spend some “Me Time”- Mommy to be, please do not stress
over small things, you are on a beautiful journey so try to be as calm as you
can. Do things which make you happy from inside. You can spend time doing
painting, exercising, walking, yoga, cooking or anything that gives you
pleasure.
4. Pregnancy Yoga- Yoga is an age old practice,
which is performed from several years and is found helpful in curing many diseases.
Practising Yoga on a regular basis gives you a feeling of mindfulness, makes
you calm and composed and gives an eternal fulfilment which gives pleasure from
within. During pregnancy you must ask your doctor about which yoga positions
are safe in pregnancy and you should practice yoga on a regular basis.
5. Ask for help- Surround
yourself with people you find the most dear ones. This is the time you require
more love & support .Expand your network of friends and family whom you
find supportive. You can always ask for any sort of help with daily routine
household work. Ask for a body massage to any of your family member, this can
actually help you lower the stress and tiredness.
