Recommended daily intake of nutrients during pregnancy| Foods to avoid in the first month of pregnancy |First-month pregnancy diet tips| Foods to include in the first month of pregnancy

Entering into motherhood is a very blissful experience for all of us, and those who are new to this journey always keep looking for something which can help them to ease the process of this new beginning.

One such important factor is to first take a good care of yourself, because your body is going through several changes at this phase of life which requires optimum care and nourishment. Making the right food choices right from the beginning will ensure a healthy pregnancy later on.

Doctors always suggest that the first month pregnancy diet is very important for the development of a healthy baby. But by the time most of the women realise that they are pregnant, like I also found it when I missed my period.....we have already passed that 1 month of pregnancy.

So, it is always suggested that you should start a healthy and pregnancy safe diet as soon as you plan to conceive and expand your family. No worries, realising what is right is never too late, if we have not started earlier now after knowing this that we are going to be mama soon ...we can start now!

Now, let’s talk about “Foods to Include in the First Month of Pregnancy”:

1.Fresh fruits & Vegetables – Now you must say that huhh! we already know that, what’s new in that. But I am not talking about the regular veggies you eat daily. At this very early stage, Baby requires enough amount of folic acid for the right development of brain and spinal cord. Except from the folic acid supplements which doctor will provide you, you should also look for some fruits which are rich in folic acid. Green leafy vegetables, avocado, lentils, orange juice, beans and cereals which are rich in folic acid are suggested to intake during this time. Folic acid also helps in blood formation during the time of pregnancy.

2.Milk & Milk Products – Milk has optimum amount of calcium which is required baby’s heart and nerve system to function properly. Consuming enough amount of calcium also helps in developing strong bone, teeth & muscles. Having yogurt, cheese & a glass full of milk is very helpful for maintaining the required amount of calcium in your body.

3.Fibre-rich foods- Oats, fibrous fruits, whole grain bread & vegetables are suggested to be added in your diet .During this time you may suffer constipation, adding fibres to your diet relieves constipation and regularize bowl movement.

4.Iodised salt-Iodised salt is the primary source of iodine, which is essential for baby’s nervous system and brain development.

5.Vitamin D- The primary source of vitamin D is “Sunlight”. But due to today’s lifestyle we are not able to consume enough amount of it. So, include foods like Vitamin D fortified milk, mushrooms & cereal.

Now, that we know that what is good for us to consume during the time of pregnancy, we should also know which foods to avoid during this time. Pregnancy time brings with it some strange food cravings, but not all food are good for us and we can’t be stop like having anything. So, now let’s talk about some “Food Which Should Be Avoided During The Time Of Pregnancy” :

1.Avoid fermented foods – Soft cheese, breads, sandwich meats as they may contain lactic acid bacteria.

2.Avoid 2 fruits – Raw Papaya and Pineapple should never be consumed during the time of pregnancy as they are known to induce contractions.

3.Raw Eggs- Raw eggs contain Salmonella and should be avoided.

4.Saturated Fats -Limit the intake of foods such as pastries, cakes, pies, processed meats, pizza, commercial burgers, and fried foods that may have high amounts of saturated fats

5.Alcohal- Avoid consumption of alcohol as it may affect fetal growth.

So, mama now you know everything what to do and what not when having diet during pregnancy time. Eating right from starting provides sufficient amount of nutrition to both the developing child and the mother.
