Hey Girls,

Today while writing this article, I am overwhelmed, and why not today is the day when i have first felt the heartbeat of my little baby. Ohh, how tiny he/she is I can’t express in words the feelings which I have gone through when seeing my baby during my first ultrasound. Seeing my baby for the first time was a memorable experience for me & I coudn’t resist myself from sharing this experience with you all.

I got to know some very important parameters of first ultrasound which is done today when I am 9 weeks pregnant, so I want to share with you all my experience from this day.

So, firstly i want to inform you that my first ultrasound is performed at 9 weeks, which is about two months. This date was told to me by my doctor, so I visited her accordingly.

This very first ultrasound of pregnancy is called as “Early Pregnancy USG” which is used for monitoring various factors related to your baby’s growth & development.

Now, let’s talk about the procedure. Since, this was a normal abdominal ultrasound it was totally a painless procedure which took about just 5 mins to complete it.

In this procedure, the doctor applied some kind of gel on my tummy and she took a hand-held device, which looks like a wand she placed it on my tummy skin at several places. This device actually creates sound waves which travels through soft skin and tissues and creates image which can be seen on screen.

This ultrasound waves could also detect baby’s heartbeat, which can be heard through “Doppler”.

Now when we know what is the procedure of ultrasound, let’s talk about the important factor’s which are seen during the first ultrasound to check for a normal pregnancy & which will come in your report. I am listing down the 7 important points which I received in my ultrasound report :-

1.Embryonic Cardiac Activity – This first ultrasound detects the presence of a heartbeat of fetus. Although the heart structures aren’t yet fully developed but it is possible to see electrical impulses of their developing heart through this ultrasound.

The value of embryonic cardiac activity at this time should range anywhere in between 140-170 bpm.The heartbeat will look like something this on ultrasound report, as the picture below.

In my case,it is right now 153 bpm, which is a good indication.

2.Helping Predicting Your Due Date This early preganacy ultrsound will also calculate your gestational period and will give you result about your approximate due date .

3.Showing the position of your placenta – The placenta develops in first few weeks of pregnancy, Generally, the baby attaches at the main part of your womb, it could be anywhere at right side wall or left side wall of your uterus or it can be in lower region of uterus. Checking the position of placenta gives a much clearer picture to doctors.

4.Estimating your baby’s size-Though your baby is very tiny at this time, but this ultrasound helps in calculating the exact size of your baby .At nine weeks the baby is approximately 1 inch long(2.5-3 cms).

5.Presence of yolk sac and fetal pole- The fetal pole is located next to a small pouch called the yolk sac, that is where it get’s it’s nutrients. In  a normal pregnancy the gestational sac is in your uterus, this ultrasound clears the presence of it.

6.Determine the number of foetuses –This ultrasound also clears how many baby you are having whether it is just one, twins or multiples.

7.To rule out ectopic pregnancy-In some cases the fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterus, mostly in fallopian tube. In this case the egg attaches itself to the fallopian tube and this is called “Ectopic Pregnancy”.This pregnancy is not a normal pregnancy, and this needs to be removed depending upon at how many weeks you are it is done through medicines or abdominal surgery.

So mommies to be, this first ultrasound is going to tell you a lot of information about the little bundle of joy and I hope through this article know you already know “What to expect at your first ultrasound”?. On this note, I am ending today’s blog...Let’s meet up again in my next blog containing information about another useful topic about “motherhood life”.

Till the,Take Care

Bbye !
