Second month pregnancy ultrasound pictures | second ultrasound during pregnancy | second ultrasound to confirm pregnancy | When should second pregnancy ultrasound be done | What to expect at your second ultrasound | When is first ultrasound for heartbeat
Hey Girls,
Today while writing this article, I am extremely happy, and why not
today is the day when I have seen my little bundle of joy growing inside my
tummy so fast .Wow ! I can’t express my feelings when I came to know that my
little one has now begun to have little little hands and legs, a nose, a spinal
chord, a proper head and a heart which is beating beautifully.
I am so happy that my second ultrasound report came absolutely normal,
along with it doctor has also prescribed some blood tests which are also
absolutely normal. I am overwhelmed to share my experience with you all.
I got to know some very important parameters of this second pregnancy
scan which is done around 12-13 weeks .This second pregnancy ultrasound is also
known as “Nuchal Transluency Scan (NT
SCAN)”.
So, firstly i want to inform you that this ultrasound was performed at
first half of third month of my pregnancy, which is about when I am 11.4 weeks
pregnant.
This scan is combined with a blood tests, which looks at two specific
hormones in pregnancy, the free-Beta hCG and PAPP-A ( pregnancy associated
plasma protein A).
Now, let’s talk about the procedure. Since, the ultrasound scanning was
a normal abdominal ultrasound it was totally a painless procedure which took
about just 5 mins to complete it.
Now, let’s talk about the important parameters which are seen during NT
Scan & which will come in your report. I am listing down the 7 important
points which I received in my ultrasound report :-
1.Information about the possibility of certain genetic disorders–
At 12 weeks, your doctor can screen for Down Syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Trisomy
18. This is called Nuchal Translucency Screening.
Trisomy 13 and Trisomy 18 requires a blood test, while Down Syndrome can
be measured by the amount of fluid at the back of the baby’s neck which can be
seen through ultrasound.
2.Helping Estimating Your Gestational Age And Due Date – This
NT preganacy ultrsound will also calculate your gestational period and will
give you result about your approximate due date .
3.Showing the position of your placenta – The placenta
develops in first few weeks of pregnancy, Generally, the baby attaches at the
main part of your womb, it could be anywhere at right side wall or left side
wall of your uterus or it can be in lower region of uterus. NT scan helps
doctor for checking the position of placenta like in my case “The placental
implantation is posterior grade-0, which means the placement is at the back of
the wall of uterus .
4.Calculating Your Cervical Length-Before preanancy, most women
have a cervix that measures between3.5-5.5 cms. As the pregnancy increases our
cervix tends to shorten over the time, doctors measures the cervical length
from time to time as a cervical length of less than 3 cms in 20-24 weeks, have
more chances of preterm births and favours vaginal birth.
6.Nuchal thickness and presence of nasal bone –This
ultrasound measures the amount of tissue at the back of an unborn baby’s neck,
which is used to check for the presence of “down syndrome” as we talked about
in first point.
If nuchal thickness less than 1.0 mm is considered normal during 11
weeks of gestational age, and your baby is not having “Down Syndrome”. If this
value exceeds more than 2.0mm , the baby is at a higher risk of having “Down
Syndrome”.
7.Details about urinary bladder-Doctors also check if your urinary bladder is completely fine during this time, it is in normal size, shape & position and there is no evidence of any stone formation.
8.Details about uterus-
Doctors examine the nature of your uterus through NT Scan, that it should be
bulky and gravid. A well defined gestational sac is seen in uterine cavity and
fetal pole is seen. Baby’s cardiac activity is normal and OS should be closed.
9.Details about ovaries and adnexas- Ovaries and Adnexas are also
evaluated that there should not be any cystic/lump of cells formation. And that
“Pouch Of Doughlas” should be clear.
So mommies to be, this NT Scan is going to tell you a lot of information
about the little bundle of joy and I hope through this article know you already
know “What to expect at your NT Scan”?. On this note, I am ending
today’s blog...Let’s meet up again in my next blog containing information about
another useful topic about “motherhood life”.
Till the,Take Care
Bbye !
