India has now
developed it’s very first vaccine to prevent “Cervical Cancer”, and it is all
set to be available in a few months.
Today I am back with yet another useful information about “What is HPV vaccine” and “how it is so important for girls to get vaccinated for HPV vaccine”.
Firstly we need to know “What is cervical cancer”. Cervical cancer is second most common
cancer in women and it comes on fourth number in the list of the most extensive
type of cancer worldwide.
Cervical cancer is a sexually transmitted disease, which is caused by the “human papilloma virus” which causes a prolonged infection in human body and ends in resulting “Cervical Cancer”.
Now, the question which comes is “Where is cervix located”? Cervix is located at the lowermost part of the uterus, and this is the place where cervical cancer cells develop.
Prevention from “Cervical Cancer” is only possible through vaccine. As this is a sexually transmitted disease the best age to give vaccine to girls is in between 9-14 years of age, so that once they get sexually active they are already jabbed and immune to this disease.
The vaccine is said to be more than 99% effective, in prevention of this disease and one can be safe and prevent themselves from getting this virus.
This vaccine not only protects you from HPV virus, but it also prevents growth of unnecessary warts in your genital area, as well as also protects you from other types of cancer in vagina, anal etc.
Studies and testings have shown that HPV vaccines are almost 100% effective in case of cervical cancer which is caused by highest HPV viruses.
The “Made in India” firstly launched vaccine to prevent cervical cancer is named as “CERVAVAC”, which will be available in market in next few coming months.
If we talk about the cost of this vaccine, it is said to be in between from 200-400 rs for a single shot.
The vaccine will be given to both young boys & girls, while the chances of getting this cancer is more in females. “Cervavac” will be effective against atleast 4 major variants of human papilloma virus.
Now, let’s talk about “How common is cervical cancer in women in India”?
The results may shock you, but every year in India about 122,844 women are diagonised with cervical cancer and almost 67,477 from this deadly cancer disease. In India the population of female ageing from 15-44 years is about 432.2 million women, who are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer as this is the most sexually active phase of a female.
Another question is “Do pregnant women require HPV vaccine”?
The answer is No. Because this vaccine is not recommended during the time of pregnancy. Also, this vaccine is suggested for all people below the age of 26, so if you fall in this category make sure that you get vaccinated before or after your pregnancy.
Human Papilloma virus(HPV infection) is during pregnancy is not well studied yet. However, there has not been any relation with an increased risk of birth defects.
What are the symptoms of cervical cancer?
The lower part of the uterus which connect through vagina is known as “Cervix” and this is the place where Cervical cancer happens, since cervix is the closest genital part of a female from vagina it is more prone to get this ‘HPV virus’.
Symptoms of cervical cancer can be unusual or irregular beleeding, which occurs in between periods or after sexual intercourse. The woman suffering from this cancer may also experience some bad smelling blood stains or vaginal discharge.
Most sexually active women get this infection, and like many other diseases it heals up on it’s own. However, in more serious cases where the infection is prolonges and is not going away on it’s own require to seek medical attention immediately, because this may further lead to become “Cervical Cancer”.
By now, there are 3 vaccines available worldwide to treat this cancer – Cervarix, Gardasil and latest one is named as Gardasil 9.
Serum institute of India, is now successful in making this vaccine of it’s own and has named it as “Cervavic”, which will be available in next few months to everyone.
This brings a ray of hope to cut down the rate of “Cervical Cancer” as India will be soon getting doses of vaccine made in our country which will be also cost effective for everyone.
On this, I am ending today’s article and I hope this brings a lot of information for you about the new HPV vaccine.
